I know that the Phillies can score virtually at will, but this bullpen debacle is becoming a real problem. The Phillies bullpen is imploding right before our eyes at the most crucial time of the year. It’s almost as if it’s a volcano spewing out spurts of lava with the big bang ready to blow at a crucial moment in the playoffs.
Brad Lidge can’t get an out, Ryan Madson success isn’t any better, and Brett Myers doesn’t look like an option any more either. Who are the going to turn to in a big spot? Anyone? Bueller? Anyone?
Last year Madson and Lidge were “The Formula” , a clone of Mariano Rivera and John Wetteland ’96 (Phil Hughes and Mariano Rivera ‘09) and they have explicably imploded?
Last year Lidge didn't blow a save, now he can't get a save! Can you immagine if he had to face Albert Puljos in a big spot with the NLCS on the line? The Phillies might as well just walk off the field!
If the Phillies don't right the ship and solve their bullpen problems soon, I have a hard time believing that the Phillies are going to be able to do any damage in the playoffs this year let alone repeat as World Champions.
The biggest problem is that it’s in their heads now. The team knows it, the manager knows it, the fans know it, and their opponents know it. Heck, the Mets minor league affiliate, the New York Mets even knocked them around. - Mike Gross
