The Doctor is in...
Question #1: I have Matt Kemp for $24. If I keep him next year he would be $29 for me. I had planned on throwing him back (because of price) but I’m starting to think he may actually be undervalued @ $29! Would you throw him back and bid on him or keep him? – Nolan, Juneau, AK
Nolan: Dr. Roto is a big Matt Kemp fan. His numbers are great and they are only going to get better from here. $29 may seem like a lot, but then again, I bet that guys like Adam Dunn and Vlad Guerrero went for a similar amount at your auction this year. Try and see if you can get any trade offers for him in the off-season. If you can, you know he's valued by other team owners.
Question #2: Does Tim Hudson have any fantasy value down the stretch? – Brett, Montgomery, AL
Brett: If you are desperate for wins and you think that Hudson can get 4 in his next 6 starts he may be worth a pick. Otherwise, Dr. Roto thinks that Hudson's ERA/WHIP/K's are just middle of the road...
Question #3: At the All-Star break you suggested that Todd Helton would not be able to duplicate his successful 1st half in the 2nd half. He has. Have you changed your opinion on him and if so, is he worth keeping (He would be $7 next year) – Merrill, Phoenix, AZ
Merrill: I sense that you are challenging Dr. Roto here...good for you! But although you may be right here, Dr. Roto is still confident is his evaluation of Helton. His power is sliding, he is injury prone, and age is catching up to him. Enjoy his good season and trade him in the off-season.
Question #4: Is Chris Davis worth taking another shot on now that he is back with the team? - Richard, San Diego, CA
Richard: Chris (Average Killer) Davis was the bain of many a fantasy league team this year. That said, he looks to have gotten his hitting eye back during his trip to Oklahoma. (Maybe BJ Upton can go there too). Dr. Roto would take a shot with Davis but only if you need power. If BA is a tight category in your league, he is a risky investment.
Question #5: What is your take on Edwin Jackson? I have him at a keeper price. Should I trade him in the off season while he has perceived value or do you think he is one of those guys who finally “got it” and we will see more success from him? – Dan, San Francisco, CA
Dan: The answer to both of your questions is Yes. I think Jackson has started to fulfill the potential that has been expected of him. That said, you know Dr. Roto's feelings on AL pitchers by now. If you can make a killer deal by moving Jackson, I would not hesitate to do it. Don't be greedy, but don't undersell either...he is a good one.
