Too little too late........

Jake Peavy was activated from the 15-day disabled list and made his White Sox debut against the Royals on Saturday night.

Peavy went five innings and allowed three runs on three hits. He earned the victory as Chicago beat Kansas City, 13-3.

Peavy had been on the DL since June 13 with a strained tendon in his right ankle. His comeback was slowed when he was hit in the pitching elbow by a line drive during a minor league rehab game on Aug. 24.

Peavy was 6-6 with a 3.97 ERA for the Padres before being traded to the White Sox on July 31 for LHP Aaron Poreda, LHP Clayton Richard, RHP Dexter Carter and RHP Adam Russell.

Unfortunatly, Peavy's comeback will be too little too late for the White Sox as they have only 13 games remaining and are 5 1/2 games out of 1st place behing both the Detroit Tigers and Minnesota Twins and even further out of a Wild Card spot 12 1/2 games back.

The White Sox and GM Kenny Williams had a odd trading spurt during the season this year appearing to both try to both make the playoffs and dump salary at the same time aquiring Peavy and Alex Rios while trading Jose Contreras and Jim Thome.  The most logical explanation is that they never dreamed that they would actually be able to pluck Rios off of waivers (even after putting in the claim) and once they took his contract they had to find the money from somewhere.

The moves certainly won't work out for them in 2009.  Perhaps 2010. - Paul Leume
