The Doctor is in...

Question #1: Is Adam Dunn a keeper at $18? – Bruce, Cincinnati, OH

Bruce: Even though Dr. Roto is not the biggest Adam Dunn fan, the answer to your question is Yes. Dunn has mashed over 30 HR this season and has actually hit well over .250. Now that steroids are supposedly out of baseball not too many guys have 40 HR power. Dunn does...which makes him a protect at $18.

Question #2: What do you make of David Wright's lack of power. Only 8 HR’s…. Hate to say it, but does the word Juice apply here? – Vicky, Wilmington, DE

Vicky: Dr. Roto doesn't think David Wright was on the juice the last few years. Random testing has increased and Wright enjoys his position as a fan favorite too much to let the juice get in the way. I think Wright was trying too hard to hit them out earlier in the year. Also, I think Citi Field has played as more of a pitcher's park. Let's call this season an aberration, and project Wright for 20 HR next year and not 30.

Question #3: Derek Jeter is having a wonderful year. Do I trade him in the off season while his value is high or keep him for $16? – Kevin, Bristol, CT

Kevin: To be honest, Dr. Roto is very surprised by the season that Jeter is having. The average and runs scored are exactly where I thought they would be, but the power and speed are significantly higher. That said, Bandbox (er, I mean Yankee) Stadium isn't getting smaller, so Jeter should hit double digit HR next year too. Not sure about the 20 or so SB. Project 10-15 to be conservative. Would you pay $16 for .320 15HR 65 RBI, 100 Runs and 15 SB at SS? I think you would. I also think a few other teams in your league would as well. See what you can get for Jeter, but don't give him away.

Question #4: Mark Teixeira or Prince Fielder? I can only keep one. – Ken, Apopka, FL

Ken: Prince Fielder is an absolute monster. He has tons of power and hits for a good average. The only problem with him is that the Brewer lineup is a bit inconsistent. Tex plays in a great lineup in a hitter's paradise. He hits for average and has tons of power. Dr. Roto sees 50 HR potential in his bat. Take Tex by a hair...

Question #5: Who is the better roto player going into next year. Jacoby Elisbury or Carl Crawford? They will both be in my draft. – Marc, Coconut Creek, FL

Marc: Jacoby Ellsbury is a terrific roto player. He hits for a great average and has speed to burn. His weaknesses are that his power is slight, and he scores fewer runs than you'd think. Crawford, however, is a fantasy beast. He has 20 HR power and can still steal 60. There is a chance he will not be a Ray next year. If he ends up in a place that doesn't give him the green light on the basepaths, he may end up with 30 SB instead of 65. Let's see where he lands first before we make the final decision.
