Here’s an interesting human interest story that happened yesterday though. Jason Bay -- the Canadian better known around Boston as Jay Ray Bay -- has had a tough month. With his incredible two-month hitting binge coming to an end, Bay's batting average has dipped to .262, the lowest it has been since April 22. He hasn't hit a home run since June 23 and is currently mired in a 2 for 30 slump that included a Bellhornian 0 for 5 on Wednesday with five strikeouts.
Amid all this, there's a silver lining: Jason Bay became a U.S. Citizen yesterday, and seems pretty pleased with himself for going through with it:
"Obviously it's something a lot of people dream of and my wife and both my girls are Americans, so it's a pretty proud day for me," Bay said.
Letter to Jay Bay: Congratulations. Much like last year with David Ortiz, I hope your newfound citizenship comes with some serious American hitting mojo. You should know that watching you at the plate this week has been more painful than watching someone eat gasoline soup with a cigarette hanging out his mouth.
But hey, what else did I expect? You were leading the AL in RBI so I traded for you and now your are slumping. That’s “Costa’s Law” right? - Peter Costa
