The Doctor is in...

Before we get to the questions, Dr. Roto was asked his opinion about Ben Zobrist. Let me answer it this way...if I had a son tomorrow, there is a good chance his name would be Zobrist! Love the guy...how can you not? He qualifies almost everywhere, has power, speed, and plays on a team that scores tons of runs. Buy, Buy, Buy!

Now for the questions:

Question 1: Jason Bay has had an MVP type 1st half. He’s actually managed to REPLACE Manny! Do I move him now or keep him? I’m out of it for this year. He would be $18 for me next year. – Anthony, Pittsburgh, PA

Anthony: Dr. Roto is waving his terrible towel for Jason Bay. The guy is a stud. Can't think of a better guy to start your team with next year if you are done this year. However, if some team that is going for it this year is willing to give you at least 2-3 protectable guys at very low values, you may want to consider...but you'd have to be getting cheap studs back in the deal.

Question 2: If the Mets are going to succeed it appears that both Ryan Church and Gary Sheffield are going to be given the opportunity to become a prominent part of the offense. They have no other potential power sources and too many positions to fill to solve their problems by making a trade. If they trade Martinez or Parnell to get Adam Dunn or something they will just lose games 6-3 instead of 6-1 or 6-2. Do you find it worthwhile to pick up either Church or Sheffield? Both are free agents in my league. – Andrew, Salem, OR

Andrew: Unless you have season tickets to CitiField I can't imagine why you would want Church or Sheffield on your team the rest of the way. While neither player is particularly bad, they are both mediocre and no more than filler on a winning fantasy team.

Question 3: I need a closer down the stretch and have worked out a tentative deal with someone dumping for my choice of Joe Nathan $18 or K-Rod $20 for Billy Butler $3. Who should I choose? –Jeff, Ambler, PA

Jeff: Tough one here. It's like saying do you want the Peter Luger Porterhouse or a Smith and Wollensky Sirloin? Dr. Roto is going to say Nathan, but only because he is $2 cheaper and the Twins are my surprise team to win the AL Central. Oh, and by the way, Peter Luger's Porterhouse is the Doc's choice too.

Question 4: Chris Perez is a free agent in my league. Does he replace Kerry Wood? And does DeRosa to the Cardinals make room for LaPorta or is Garko still in his way? – Maurice, Newark, OH

Maurice: Nice try infusing two questions here when others are trying to get one answered! Dr. Roto likes Perez and thinks he has good upside in the Tribe's pen. Keep a watch on him. As for LaPorta, Dr. Roto likes him too (and fully expects to see him up again soon), but don't discount Garko just yet. He is a solid hitter in his own right.

Question 5: What do you make of Luke Hochevar? He doesn’t appear to strike out many, but he seems to miss the center of bats. If you take out one bad start in June he pitched to a 1.09 WHIP in the other four. Keeper? – Ben, Big Lake, TX

Ben: If you are a consistent reader of Dr. Roto's posts, you know that AL pitchers who don't strike guys out are very low on his food chain. I guess if you surround him with a bunch of K pitchers and you enjoy watching KC's offense attempt to score three runs a game, he would make a good pick up. If not, let someone else have the joy.
