When manager Lou Piniella spoke to Soriano last week in Pittsburgh and told him he would be giving him a few more days off, Soriano said he understood. But Soriano was upset when he saw that his name wasn't in the starting lineup Wednesday after he had a pair of hits Tuesday night.
Soriano, who was hitting .182 over his last 40 games (that’s 25% of the year!) had the nerve to say the following.
"That's why I'm mad, if he had told me yesterday, I wouldn't come today ready to play. That was a surprise to me. I think he could have said to me last night, 'OK, take a day off,' especially because Thursday is an off day. I'd be like, 'OK, I'll take the two days. But I like to know before I come here."EXCUSE ME Mr. Alfonso Soriano, you are getting paid handsomely to do your work. Whatever they tell you to do, you do. If they tell you to play, you play, if they tell you not to play, then you sit and root (and be ready to be called upon.) You play where ever they want, hit where ever they want, and when they want. Did you ever think that if you were hitting the ball and he thought that you were his best option that day at the position that you would have played? What in God’s name gives you primidona’s the right to act that way about your job?
Why is it that all my players suck (when they play for me, no matter how good their resume is) and to make matters worse they all talk? Just shut up and do your job when they put you in! Jerk – Peter Costa
