Does anyone else besides me think that if Pedro Martinez could still be an effective MLB pitcher that he would have been on someone’s roster from the beginning of the year? He pitched in the WBC games during spring training, he wasn’t hurt, and he’s been auditioning for months on some chicken ranch in the Dominican Republic.
Here are the reports –
“The Phillies, however, were impressed by the way he threw in two recent workouts. Martinez reached 88 to 89 mph with his fastball, one source said, and also displayed surprisingly good command.”Ca’mon now. Look, the Phillies will win the division walking away, but it will have nothing to do with Pedro. Last year he was 5-6 with a 5.61 ERA in 20 starts for the Mets. What type of production do the Phillies think they are going to get from him? They think that the guys they have now on their roster and in the minors can’t pitch to a 5.61 ERA? He’s going to do nothing but tax the bullpen as you know that even on a good day he’ll be out of the game after 5 innings, 6 tops.
If you ask me this is all much to do about nothing. Now if he wanted to square off with Don Zimmer in a pay per view match, that would be news. I hear Zim has been sparring....– Josh Bolan
