No Pedro, No Pedro.....

The Boston Globe reports that both the Chicago Cubs and Tampa Bay Rays have expressed interest in Pedro Martinez. They have both gone down to watch him throw in the Dominican Republic.

I find it hard to believe but the reports are that he’s been clocked as high as 94 mph.

It seems to me that if Pedro could throw 94mph, with his experience and moxy, I would guess that someone would have given him the 5 million that he was looking for. And if he does come back, could you really see him going more than 5 innings, 6 tops?

The reason the Dodgers traded him to the Expos in the beginning of his career was not because he didn’t have quality stuff. They felt that he was too small physically and would break down over the rigors of a long season (I don’t see why they wouldn’t have made him a closer then, but that’s just me).

We’ll, father time finally caught up with him towards the end of his career and he hasn’t gotten any younger since the last time he toed the rubber. One of these teams might spend some of their budgeted free agent money to get him, but that doesn’t mean you should spend any of your FAAB budget on him.

He’ll be a Hall of Famer some day, but not because of anything he might do in MLB from here on out. If you ask me, if he comes back he’s doing nothing but delaying the 5-year waiting process to get in. – Blake Kearny
