Randy Johnson

While the media is talking about Randy Johnson’s 300 win. I’d like to talk about some other phenomenal Randy Johnson stats.

1) He is closing in on 5,000 strikeouts! Assuming he stays healthy, there is no doubt that he will try to come back and reach that.

2) In a 21 year career he’s maintained a WHIP of 1.17. For a guy that strikes out as many hitters as he did, to only walk 2.5 hitters per 9 innings is absolutely amazing.

3) He’s now started 597 games in his illustrious career, and he’s got 100 complete games. He’s completed one out of every 6 games he’s pitched! And if take his work in his prime prior to age 40, his complete games where 1 out of every 5! Besides Roy Halladay or Zach Greinke (this year), who can you say has done anything like that in this generation?

4) He’s dominated posts seasons as a starter and when things got dicey they just brought him out of bull-pen on no rest to close things out!

I am one of those who is of the belief that he may in fact just be the last 300 game winner that you will see. What, it Jamie Moyer going to hang he is 52-53 and get 10 more wins per year? With the money they pay these guys, and the pitch counts they have them on, even if someone was as good as Randy for as long of a period in time, they just won’t be given the opportunity to do it.

But even if someone does do it, I don’t think they will able to dominance that Randy did. - Gregory Shapiro
